Tribal Posters

In several parts of the Indian subcontinent, the nomadic tribes regularly hunt wildlife for skin, flesh, horns and bones. Gilhara, Badiya and Jogis are a few among them who also trade their catch. This piece of art is inspired by such tribes.

The Head Figure is inspired by the Bonda tribe of Odisha who live in the 32 villages of the Bonda Ghati in the Malkangiri district of Odisha. They call themselves ‘Remo’ which means people. The people of Bonda tribe have large highlighted facial features.

This art is based on the appearance and lifestyle of several tribes in India. The mother is holding her son and grinding grains on a stone mill by hand. It is common with several Indian tribal women to not wear a bodice but wear lots of jewels.
